HAPPY BIRTHDAY WESTON!!!

Weston is asleep right now. He's been running a 102+ fever since about 2 am... about the time my water broke a year ago today trying to bring him into this world. I feel so bad that he has to be sick on his birthday. Definitely not what I had planned. I have 16 cupcakes for daycare and treat bags... and the day off. He won't let me do anything. So... no haircut today, having a hard time working on his birthday cakes, having a hard time even getting food. Poor baby is just burning up. But the doctors say he can wait to be seen until 3. Scary.
Daycare just called, 2 brothers just went home with high grade fevers. Looks like an outbreak. Both were fine this morning, then, BAM! High-grade fever.
It's hard to reflect on this year with a very sick baby. I remember that day... but some of it is blurry. and so scary. But I got the best reward. He was so tiny then... I just couldn't get enough of him. Still can't, though he's into everything now.
He's starting to wake up... better go.
He was 15 minutes old here.

almost there...

A year ago today I was in the painful process of being induced. (But we had time for a photo-op at 7am.) Waiting for contractions to begin, waiting for anything to happen. Hanging out with my family, watching them eat while all I got was injections of Penicillin (which felt like acid in my veins) and glucose directly into the IV when they realized that I was extremely low on my sugars (63 when my average was 120 at the time.) By 1 pm I was uncomfortable from being in bed too long and starving. And nothing was happening. We all waited and waited for Weston. It was a stressful day. But a good day. The anticipation is amazing. But the actual was not what I expected at all.
Start here and move forward for the events of the entire day.
I hope to be able to write tomorrow on Weston's actual birthday. I can't believe that it's been a year yet. Or that I would be this emotional over it. I miss how little he used to be, but love how big he is now. It's so conflicting the emotions!
He has the same face a year later... about the only thing that's the same. :)
(By the way, the trucks are for Weston's birthday.)

Weston's growing up...

After moving Shannon on July 10th, Weston kicked back by trying to balance a-just-unpacked-Margarita glass on his face. He looked hilarious

Weston showing off his new Stride Rite walking shoes. The experience? Priceless. The shoes? Outrageously expensive for a toddler not looking at a Basketball scholarship.

Go Bulldogs!

Mermaid or Whale?

Recently, in large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said:
¨THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?¨
A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:
Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans).
They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales.
They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp.
They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia.
Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs.
They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans.
They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.
Mermaids don't exist.
If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis.
Fish or human?
They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them not to mention how could they have sex?
Therefore they don't have kids either.
Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a piece of chocolate with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think,
¨Good gosh, look how smart I am...¨

hmmmm

I'm alive... just tired and busy and tired.
Planning Weston's 1st birthday. 2 parties. Next year, only one party. I don't care.
I love it though.
I can't believe my baby is going to be 1!!! I can't believe it's been a year. It's just flown by. And I love him more and more every day. He will probably end up completely spoiled, but I don't care right now.

In Ankeny moving Shannon to the Southside. Volunteers are welcome!

30 days of photos

So I haven't been great with the photos, it must be because my card reader doesn't like my SD card... it likes everyone else's card, just not mine. But I have finally uploaded my camera. So... here's a glimpse into our world in the last month.
This is Scott's birthday cake for his 40th party in Sioux City on June 20th.
The original, nicely fitting box broke, and there were issues with the original filling, but everyone seemed to like it.
Weston enjoying the I-Cubs game planned by me for the Onthank Company for our Summer Picnic. It was 84 degrees and so humid that Weston wouldn't eat and stuck to everything, but he seemed to have a lot of fun.
Weston calling the Play. That's the signal for steal third base when the batter bunts.
Weston enjoying (?) his first Riverboat Days in Clinton. That's the entire POS carnival in the background.
Our Riverboat Days family picture.
Weston and Shannon hanging out on the River. (in case you aren't from Clinton, "the River" is the Mississippi River (from the Iowa side.)Paisley at 2 1/2 months being tickled by Shannon. Look how Blue her eyes are! She's the perfect example of the 4th of July! Unfortunately, Zoey was with her Grandma, so Weston didn't have anyone to play with.
Aunt Linda, Great-aunt Rosanna and Mom. I don't see any family resemblance, do you? No... none at all. (Just my future.)
Scott hanging out with Paisley and Weston, who - for once - wasn't trying to put his fingers in her mouth.
July 6th, family vacation day. We took Weston to the pool. He loved it!
He even kicked enough to make his way around the pool on his own!

I put his hair in a Mohawk while at the pool and an hour and a nap later, it stuck!!! he looked so awesome!
