You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.

the land of erin is frozen over...

Twice this winter is has snowed more than 8" (once almost 15") in the land of Erin.
A week ago it was so cold that it was dangerous to be outside for mere minutes.
Ridiculously cold.
So cold that people wouldn't travel over an hour for fear that their cars would stop and they might freeze to death.
Then yesterday it rained. And the rain froze in the air while it fell; froze once it hit a solid surface; froze on top of the already giant mountains of snow.
Everything is now covered in ice... like a glass encasement.
It's as if the Evil Queen has put Iowa to sleep under a sheet of glass.

In its own way, it is quite beautiful.
Until you slip and fall.
Until your little boy thinks it's fun to slip and slide to the car and you both almost fall together.
But then you wake up the next morning and the grayed sunlight is twinkling once again on a world of frozen glass... and your breath catches, and for a minute you are back in the fairy tale.
As the panes of ice fall from rooftops or branches fall from their trees, it sounds like the glass is breaking on the fairy tale and soon the Evil Queen will be overthrown and the sun will shine on the Prince and Princess and all will be well.
