You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.

eck

So... I have caught some nasty thing from Weston. I assume it's from Weston since his nose is running non-stop and he's got a bad cough. My face feels puffy, my nose is running and sore and I feel like I am coughing up razor blades. Just for fun. I have no time to go to a doctor, who will probably tell me this is just a virus anyway and that I need to work through it. I am so tired that all I want to do is to crawl up into a ball and find a small hole to sleep in.
But... it looks like I might get a small reprieve. Just got a call from daycare. They are now closed on Friday. It looks like Weston and I can sleep in! Since I can't find another sitter. All of my options are tapped. I will have to take off. :( It's a bad week too. We are already down one person. I really need reliable back up daycare.

the land of erin is frozen over...

Twice this winter is has snowed more than 8" (once almost 15") in the land of Erin.
A week ago it was so cold that it was dangerous to be outside for mere minutes.
Ridiculously cold.
So cold that people wouldn't travel over an hour for fear that their cars would stop and they might freeze to death.
Then yesterday it rained. And the rain froze in the air while it fell; froze once it hit a solid surface; froze on top of the already giant mountains of snow.
Everything is now covered in ice... like a glass encasement.
It's as if the Evil Queen has put Iowa to sleep under a sheet of glass.

In its own way, it is quite beautiful.
Until you slip and fall.
Until your little boy thinks it's fun to slip and slide to the car and you both almost fall together.
But then you wake up the next morning and the grayed sunlight is twinkling once again on a world of frozen glass... and your breath catches, and for a minute you are back in the fairy tale.
As the panes of ice fall from rooftops or branches fall from their trees, it sounds like the glass is breaking on the fairy tale and soon the Evil Queen will be overthrown and the sun will shine on the Prince and Princess and all will be well.

leftovers....

I just shared leftover Pad Thai with my son. He is that cool. He also ate 2 crab rangoons and the very last bites of the Pad Thai and Jasmine rice. Another reason why Weston is my perfect child.

Sunday morning in the Land of Erin...

Don't you wish you were at my house on Sunday mornings?
I'm sure you do.
I'm like a short order cook when it comes to breakfast. I always make it to order and generally try for special.

This weekend it was Belgian Waffles on my new waffle maker, a birthday present from my brother Nathan. Waffles were served with choice of bananas, strawberry syrup, maple syrup, powdered sugar dusting and light whipped cream. Most options were sugar-free or low sugar.

Now Wandering Through the Land of Erin...

My Mom has said hello to the world of Technology!
Welcome, Mom!!!!

She has an email account too!!!

And She reads my blog!

It all started when she got a new laptop after Thanksgiving. It's beautiful. 17" screen... so nice! Anyway, she's been getting on the Internet and looking at QVC and playing all sorts of games.

Her ultimate goal is for us to all get web cams and then we can "Skype" back and forth. (Not sure if I spelled Skype right, but for people like me... it's web chatting.)

So... my mom is now on line. :) And when I was last home, we logged onto Facebook so she could check out all of our photos (especially my brother's) and see what my aunts and cousins were up to in Texas. Then she said she wanted to see my blog. So I showed her. And she seemed interested. Then she was like, "Well, how am I going to find this again." I added it to her "Favorites."

So... time goes by and Mom and I are talking on the phone like we do every day (yes, I talk to my mom every single day if possible. I remember my mom calling her mom every day. It's what we do. And I think I am better for it.) And she mentions my blog. I tell her to look it up. She says she doesn't know how. I gently remind her of her Favorites side bar. "Ok," she says. Onto another topic.

I called Wednesday. She and my Aunt Linda were reading my blog! Apparently they enjoy it now that Mom can find it. :) It's a discussion topic. Ah... technology is a beautiful thing. And what they say about new tricks... anything's possible. My mom wants us all to have web cams after all.

Welcome to the Land of Erin, Mom and Aunt Linda!!!! So glad you could join the party!!!
